U2 Bad Wide Awake in America version live in 1985. 11 O'Clock Tick Tock is a song by Irish rock band U2. It was released as a single on 16 May 1980. It followed their debut EP Three and the single Another Day. It was the group's first release for Island Records. 11 O'Clock Tick Tock was recorded in the spring of 1980, and was produced by Martin Hannett, an in-demand figure at that time for his recent critically acclaimed work with Joy Division, a band that influenced U2. The band first met Hannett at the Strawberry Studios in Stockport in March. CBS Records, who would continue to hold U2s contract in Ireland for the next few years, released the single in that country on May 16, 1980, while Island issued the single in the UK on the following week, May 23. Both of these initial pressings were released on 7-inch black vinyl only. Neither song was re-recorded for Boy when that album was put together later in 1980, and in fact they have not appeared on any U2 studio album. The songs were not forgotten, though, as both formed a part of U2s live set
