Aural Guerrilla is the 1988 studio album by Dutch anarchist post-punk band The Ex, co-released by American indie label Homestead Records. Wanting a different sound, The Ex recorded Aural Guerrilla in Rochdale, England instead of their home studio in the Netherlands, and returned to work with The Mekons' Jon Langford who had previously produced the band's 1983 album, Tumult. As inspiration for the album, the band would retire to Langford's house in Leeds after each day of recording and rewatch a. Aural Guerrilla by The Ex, released 01 January 1988 1. The Ex are best when they're the sound of a collapsing system, a catastrophic fury that's senseless and unnegotiable. That's their lure in this era of pragmatic reformers. Powerful, strong punk, with a bit of an industrial edge, and as always, inspiring lyrics. The Ex - Aural Guerrilla 1988 01. Headache By Numbers 02. Fashionation 03. Carcass 05. I believe it to have the easiest to get into music, I believe it to have some of their catchiest tracks, I believe it to have some of their most intriguing production and I believe it to have the most carefully crafted flow. This was the 1988 album before the great double album Joggers and Smoggers, so it's fairly early in their career. I wish this was better recorded, and I don't go out of my way to let this one grow on me by listening to it over and over again. Joggers invites you in in a way that this doesn't - at least if you appreciate experimental punk. Tracks numbered sequentially 1 to 10 on centre labels. The Ex, June 1988.
